Celebrating Excellence: 2025 PHTA Superlative Awards in Pool and Spa Industry
The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA), representing the gamut of swimming pool, hot tub, and spa industries, recently honored exemplary contributors to these sectors with its 2025 Superlative Awards. Recognized categories include Builder of the Year, Service Professional of the Year, and more, underscoring the widespread talent driving these industries forward.
The accolades will be formally presented on October 21 at the PHTA Awards of Excellence Reception in Las Vegas, NV. This event coincides with the International Pool Spa Patio Expo, a reflection of the industry’s collaborative spirit and its commitment to sharing knowledge, showcasing innovation, and celebrating leadership.

Honoring the 2025 Award Recipients
Builder of the Year
Mike Church of Cody Pools was named Builder of the Year, recognized for setting benchmarks in pool construction excellence. Church’s leadership has expanded Cody Pools to over 500 employees across three states, with a focus on ethical practices and ongoing education.
Under his leadership, Cody Pools has been designated the top pool builder in America by Pool and Spa News for 13 consecutive years. He is noted not only for his business acumen but for fostering a culture of integrity and innovation within the pool construction sector.
Service Professional of the Year
Nicholas LaPointe, Golden State Pools owner, earned the title of Service Professional of the Year. He has expanded his family-run business to service over 1,300 accounts, highlighting the importance of client loyalty through historic knowledge and personal connection.
An alumni of the PHTA Leadership Certificate Program, LaPointe is steadfast in his commitment to service innovation and professional growth, holding multiple industry certifications, with aspirations to further advance as a Certified Master Pool Builder.
Retailer of the Year
Mike Todd from Rainbow Pools & Living Art Designs received top honors as Retailer of the Year. His leadership has set new retail standards, and his support for PHTA’s drowning prevention initiative exemplifies his dedication to industry safety.
With roles within NESPA and multiple certifications including CSP and CPO, Todd fosters a culture of excellence and safety both in-store and across the industry, further illustrating his commitment to the pool retail sector.
IHTA Hot Tub Retailer of the Year
Scott Clark of The Spa and Sauna Co. claimed the IHTA Hot Tub Retailer of the Year award, celebrated for pioneering customer-centric practices and educational contributions through the IHTA Retailer Subcommittee.
Emphasizing collaboration, Clark provides training and resources that elevate the hot tub retail experience, supporting not only his customers but the industry at large through shared best practices.
Volunteer of the Year
Steve Barnes from AquaStar Pool Products was distinguished as Volunteer of the Year for his extensive contributions to industry standards and safety practices over a storied 40-year career.
Barnes’ volunteerism spans critical PHTA committees and standard developments, underscoring his role in shaping a safer, more robust pool and hot tub industry.
Young Professionals of the Year
Alexa Blanda and Johnathan Nies were both recognized as Young Professionals of the Year, having made significant strides within the industry through leadership roles and educational initiatives.
Blanda’s involvement in service innovation and Nies’ dedication to safety and regulatory compliance exemplify the visionary thinking driving the next generation of pool professionals.
Chapter of the Year
The Penn-Jersey Pool & Spa Association was awarded Chapter of the Year, recognized for its dynamic community engagement and advocacy to strengthen the pool and spa industry.
